1st, Saturday
weather: fair in the afternoon

I woke up this morning at 6 o'clock. At 2 o'clock I set out for Tokyo. Mother returned from Brother's house. I wanted to get going but mother stood calmly and smoked a cigarette. Afterwards we left the house. The 2:56 train from Kyoto Station blew smoke and sounded its whistle; then departed for Tokyo. The ride was really boring. I passed the time by reading a magazine and gazing out at Lake Biwa while the train ran along its banks. The lake sparkled silver in the sun and the day became warmer. I spotted the first star to appear in the sky. Then I spotted the second one. The day had ended. We went to the dining car for dinner. In the middle of eating, the train went through a tunnel and suddenly everything became pitch black. the end
